Privacy Policy

Last updated: 28 July 2026

dönermapp is a community-driven app for discovering and rating döner spots in the Netherlands. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. We keep it short because we collect little.

What we collect

  • Account info. A username, your email address, and a password you choose. Your email is used to sign you in and to let you reset your password; it is never shown to other users or shared for marketing. Your password is stored securely (hashed) by our authentication provider and is never visible to us.
  • Photos you add. When you check in, you take or choose a photo of your döner as proof of visit. These photos are uploaded and shown publicly in the app alongside the place.
  • Content you create. Places you add, ratings, one-line verdicts, your bio, and friend requests.
  • Your location, at the moment you check in. To keep reviews honest, the app checks that you are within roughly 200 metres of the spot you are reviewing. This check happens on your device while you are writing the review. Your coordinates are not stored on our servers and are not linked to your profile.
  • A notification token, only if you enable notifications. Apple gives the app an anonymous identifier for your device so we can deliver notifications to it. It is deleted when you switch notifications off, sign out, or delete your account.

What we do NOT collect

  • No background location. The app never reads your location unless you are actively submitting a review, and it never tracks you between visits.
  • No advertising identifiers and no third-party ad tracking.
  • No contacts, no microphone, no health or financial data.

Notifications

Notifications are entirely optional and off until you turn them on in the app (Profile → Notifications). There are two separate switches:

  • Döner buddy activity. Tells you when someone you follow checks in somewhere.
  • Reminders & nudges. Occasional suggestions, such as a Friday-evening nudge or a note when you have not checked in for a while. To time these, we look at when you last checked in. This switch is off unless you turn it on, and turning it off stops that use immediately.

The app works exactly the same with both switched off, and you can also revoke notifications entirely in iOS Settings.

How your camera is used

The app requests camera access only when you take a proof-of-visit photo for a review. The photo must be taken there and then, which is what makes it proof; we do not access your camera or photo library in the background.

Where your data is stored

Account data, content, and photos are stored using Supabase (Postgres database and file storage). Data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections.

Sharing

We do not sell your data. Content you post (places, ratings, verdicts, photos, username, bio) is public within the app by design. Your check-in history is visible only to your accepted friends (“döner buddies”).

Deleting your account or data

You can request deletion of your account and associated content at any time by emailing support@donermapp.com. We will remove your account, reviews, and uploaded photos.

Children

dönermapp is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above.
